Spotify desktop app grayed out not playing after clicking spotify link

So, when I click an external link to play a song in spotify, It will open the webplayer first before sending it to the desktop app, but if the desktop app was already open and playing, it will cause the Song it was playing to stop, and the entire play bar at the bottom of the screen will become preyed out an be unplayable. at this point I have closed the Web player, but the App continues to behave as though it is recieving no input. Navigation proceeds as normal, but it will not play, nor register any commands to put anything on the queue. I have tried force quitting it, restarting the app, Chrome, clearing the cache, etc.
Is there a fix that doesn't include me reinstalling the app or restarting my computer every time I click on a link?

I've had a similar problem intermittently recently. Sometimes when I just click a song in another playlist, the playback bar will just go gray and unclickable.

I haven't had the problem in the last few weeks if I remember correctly. I think I reinstalled Spotify though.

You've stated that you don't want to reinstall the app, but I'm not sure what else might help. Have you tried a clean install?

Multiple times. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, in fact, most of the time it doesn't. but this is happening so frequently, that having to reinstall it every time is tedious and time consuming.

Hey folks,

Thanks for reaching out. Could you please provide us the following:

  • The exact makes, models and OS/Firmware versions of all your affected devices
  • The exact Spotify Versions you use.
  • When did this start happening?
  • Is this on all devices or only on specific one(s)?
  • Screenshots or a video of the behaviour

With this information, we’d be happy to investigate.

Keep us posted.
